Stars from the sport and music world will join young people affected by the Grenfell Tower tragedy on Sunday 9 June 2019 for a football tournament, ahead of the 2nd anniversary of the fire next week, supported by the NHS.

Players from the age of 10 will join fourteen teams expected to play alongside music stars AJ Tracey, Tefflon, Tom Grennan, Conducta , rapper and actor Ashley Walters and You Tube star Chunks. The tournament is designed to develop resilience, health and wellbeing in young people through team sport.

Grenfell Trust, the organisers was established in the aftermath of the fire by the bereaved of the tragedy, for the bereaved. “We promote healthy living and sport to the youth in our community so that they have activities to participate in that will lead to healthier and happier lifestyles”, said a Grenfell Trust spokesperson. “We very much appreciate the support of the NHS to ensure that North Kensington community can heal and move forward. These types of activities bring everyone together, help to rebuild the community and create positive memories that we can all cherish”.

Emily Nicholls, Children and Young People’s Programme Lead at NHS West London said of the NHS supporting the tournament “this is a really positive event connecting young people through sport, we’re happy to be involved, particularly as we know the benefits of physical activity on our health are endless. It’s also an opportunity for us to let these young people know what local NHS services are available for them. They may be feeling angry, sad, struggling to sleep or feeling distracted at school, if that is the case then we can help and we want to restate our commitment to anyone who is affected by Grenfell at this time of remembrance”.

The Football tournament will take place from 1-5pm at the Westway Sport Centre.
