The community gathers to remember and reflect
Voluntary organisations around North Kensington (including Healthier Futures and Health Partners) will be opening their doors this Friday [14 June], to welcome residents who want to be with others to commemorate the seventh anniversary of the Grenfell Tower fire. There are also quiet spaces available if residents prefer to reflect in solitude on their loved ones.
Refreshments are on offer at various venues including Bay 20, The Dalgarno Trust, FAWA and Men’s Sheds (afternoon from 2pm) and the Grenfell Tower Trust is also offering massages, as well as space for reflective thinking.
Around 10 women from the Al-Hasaniya women’s centre’s Together for Grenfell project (featured here) are heading into central London on Wednesday afternoon for afternoon tea. They also plan to plant seeds in memory of their loved ones in the Morocco gardens.
Lancaster West Estate will host an afternoon of speakers, poetry and music from 2pm-5pm. Everyone is welcome.
Children and young people might want to express their feelings through art. Baraka Community Centre is hosting an Abundance Art workshop on Friday.
A silent walk takes place every year and the walk will begin at 6.30pm [on Friday] from Notting Hill Methodist Church.
Looking ahead, Youth Action Alliance are again putting the finishing touches to their One Heart festival, taking place on Saturday 22 June.
This is just a small selection of the many community events taking place on the anniversary and across the week. Our thoughts are with the community during this sad and reflective time.
