Enhanced Health Checks (EHCs)

The NHS offers Enhanced Health Checks (EHCs) to Grenfell-affected residents to review their health.
 
These free checks are available both via the local GP or at a local community clinic (new dates and times of these clinics are published every month). It is recommended that you get a health check every year. 

The checks can find out the early signs of health problems or any underlying health conditions. They also allow time to discuss any health concerns you may have, which can often be reassuring.   

A typical health check for an individual takes around 30 minutes to an hour and entails:

Lifestyle & health check

  • Weight
  • Body mass index
  • Blood pressure and pulse
  • Physical activity reviews
  • Dietary review with onward referral to various weight loss management programmes.
  • Health advice around dental and eye care
  • Any concerns identified from initial assessment may result in a referral for a bloods tests - to assess conditions such as diabetes, high cholesterol, thyroid function test and renal function if indicated.
  • Onward referrals to a Social prescribing Link Worker and Community Self-Care service​​​​​​

Respiratory examination: 

  • Oxygen saturation.
  • Physical examination of chest.
  • Smoking cessation intervention.
  • Any concerns identified from the initial respiratory assessment will result in an onward referral for a spirometry assessment/further support.

Enhanced Health Checks for children:

A typical health check for a child can longer than an hour as it entails more checks.

  • Check concerns around breathing.
  • Emotional health screening.
  • Weight monitoring and links to local weight management services.
  • Focus on dental hygiene & physical activity

Family clinics - how to book

Although you can book a health check via your GP, some families prefer the convenience of visiting a local community clinic instead (new dates and times for these clinics are published every month).

Booking your whole family in for a health check at the same time is quick and easy. You can all get checked out at the same time, rather than making separate appointments. Just mention at the time of booking how many family members you want to get checked out, to see if free slots are available on your preferred day.
